Prime Minister of India from 15 August 1947 till now

India became independent on 15 August 1947 and Jawaharlal Nehru took oath as the Prime Minister, since then India has got 14 Prime Ministers and 16 Lok Sabhas. Prime Minister of India from 15 August 1947 till now

  • The first Prime Minister of India was Jawaharlal Nehru, he was the MP from Phulpur, his tenure was from 15 August 1947 to 27 May 1964, his party was the Indian National Congress (INC). He belonged to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lok Sabha.
  • anymore Gulzari Lal Nanda Became the Prime Minister of India. His tenure was from 27 May 1964 to 9 June 1964. He was from the Indian National Congress Party. He was MP in Lok Sabha from Sabarkantha constituency. He belonged to the 3rd Lok Sabha. He was the Prime Minister of India twice, after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, he took over as the caretaker Prime Minister.
  • Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India. He was the MP of Lok Sabha from Allahabad constituency. His tenure was from 9 June 1964 to 11 January 1966. He was also from the Indian National Congress, he belonged to the 3rd Lok Sabha.
  • After the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Gulzari Lal Nanda was once again sworn in as the caretaker Prime Minister of India. His tenure was from 11 January 1966 to 24 January 1966. His constituency was Sabarkantha and he belonged to the third Lok Sabha.
  • Indira Gandhi took oath as the third PM of India on 24 January 1966 and served till 24 March 1977. She was also from the Indian National Congress. She belonged to the 3rd, 4th and 5th Lok Sabha. She was MP in Lok Sabha from Rae Bareli constituency.
  • Morarji Desai took oath as the fourth Prime Minister of India on 24 March 1977 and his term lasted till 28 July 1979. He was from Janata Party. And Surat was his constituency from where he was the MP of Lok Sabha. He belonged to the Sixth Lok Sabha.
  • Charan Singh became the fifth Prime Minister of India. He took oath as the Prime Minister on 28 July 1979 and his tenure was till 14 January 1980. He was also from Janata Party. He belonged to the Sixth Lok Sabha. His constituency was Baghpat. From where he was the MP of Lok Sabha.
  • After this Indira Gandhi once again became the Prime Minister of India. His tenure lasted from 14 January 1980 to 31 October 1984. Her constituency was Rae Bareli from where she was the MP of Lok Sabha. She was from the Indian National Congress and belonged to the Seventh Lok Sabha.
  • After Indira Gandhi, his son Rajiv Gandhi became the sixth Prime Minister of India. He was the Lok Sabha MP from Amethi. His tenure lasted from 31 October 1984 to 2 December 1989. He was from the Indian National Congress Party. He belonged to the Eighth Lok Sabha.
  • Vishwanath Pratap Singh became the seventh Prime Minister of India. His tenure lasted from 2 December 1989 to 10 November 1990. He was the MP of Lok Sabha from Fatehpur constituency. His party was Janata Dal and he belonged to the Ninth Legislative Assembly.
  • After this Chandra Shekhar Singh took oath as the Prime Minister of India, the eighth of India. His tenure lasted from 10 November 1990 to 21 June 1991. He was from Samajwadi Janata Party. His constituency was Ballia. He belonged to the Ninth Lok Sabha.
  • PV Narasimha Rao became the 9th Prime Minister of India. His tenure was from 21 June 1991 to 16 May 1996. He was the MP of Lok Sabha from Nandyal constituency. He belonged to the Indian National Congress Party and belonged to the Tenth Lok Sabha.
  • After this, the Prime Minister was from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose name was Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he was the tenth Prime Minister of India. His tenure lasted from 16 May 1996 to 1 June 1996. His constituency was Lucknow, was the MP of the Lok Sabha from Lucknow. He belonged to the 11th Lok Sabha.
  • HD Deve Gowda became the 11th Prime Minister of India. He assumed his office on 1 June 1996 and remained the Prime Minister of India till 21 April 1997. He used to contest elections from Janata Dal Party. He belonged to the 11th Lok Sabha.
  • After this, Inder Kumar Gujral became the Prime Minister of India, he was the 12th Prime Minister of India. His tenure was from 21 April 1997 to 19 March 1998. He was the MP of Rajya Sabha from Patna (Bihar). He was also from the Janata Dal party and belonged to the 11th Lok Sabha.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee once again became the Prime Minister of India. He belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party and was the MP of the Lok Sabha from the Lucknow constituency. His tenure lasted from 19 March 1998 to 22 May 2004. He belonged to 12th and 13th Lok Sabha.
  • After this Manmohan Singh took oath as the Prime Minister of India, becoming the 13th Prime Minister of India. He was the Rajya Sabha MP from Assam. He was the Prime Minister of India from 22 May 2004 to 26 May 2014. He belonged to the Indian National Congress Party and belonged to the 14th and 15th Lok Sabha.
  • After this Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India, he was the 14th Prime Minister of India. He became the Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014 and his term is still going on. He is the MP of Lok Sabha from Varanasi constituency. She belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party and belongs to 16th Lok Sabha.

Narendra Modi’s party Bharatiya Janata Party has won the 2019 elections with a huge vote, which means that he will again take oath as the PM of India and will remain the PRIME MINISTER of India for the next five years and will form the 17th Lok Sabha.
